Is using the app and web portal required?

No, you can use JAMES without the app and web portal, as you will also be informed about alarms and locations via call and SMS. However, both the app and the web portal offer more convenience, an overview of the device status, and the option to adjust settings.

What is the JAMES app used for?

The JAMES app is mainly used for convenient management and monitoring of emergency devices. It provides relatives and helpers with an overview of the device status and the option to conveniently adjust settings.

Important: Regular emergency contacts do not need the app to respond in an emergency.

For relatives, the free app is a practical tool to use various device functions, such as location requests or adjusting emergency contacts. The app is available for Android, iOS, and additionally via a browser (web portal), providing maximum flexibility.

Can I store an emergency number (112, 144, …) as an emergency contact?

No, unfortunately it is not possible to store an emergency service number as an emergency contact. This has the following reasons:

  • For technical reasons, your location cannot be transmitted to emergency services, which means the necessary help may not be provided in an emergency.
  • Emergency services do not accept automated calls. Once an alarm is triggered on the emergency watch, a recorded message informs the recipient about the emergency call, which can be accepted by pressing key 2 on the phone.
  • As false alarms can occur, emergency services would quickly become overloaded as a result.

To ensure you are protected around the clock even if your emergency contacts cannot be reached or cannot provide help at the moment, we offer the option to book the Emergency call centre add-on tariff.

This extends your alerting chain with a permanently available emergency call centre that reliably receives and quickly processes alarms around the clock, 24/7. If your stored emergency contacts cannot be reached in an emergency, the call centre ensures that the necessary help is organised immediately.

Which numbers can be added as emergency contacts?

  • Phone numbers from all EU countries, including the United Kingdom and Switzerland, including:
    • Landline numbers
    • Mobile phone numbers with the option to receive an SMS in the event of an emergency call

What is required to use the JAMES app?

To use the JAMES app, you only need a smartphone with a current iOS or Android operating system. Once you have one, you can download the app for free from the App Store or the Google Play Store  (search for JAMES app).

Downloading and using the JAMES app is free of charge.

Does the JAMES app also work abroad?

Yes, the JAMES app also works abroad as long as there is a stable internet connection. This means you can also see how your loved ones are doing while on holiday or on trips.

Can I manage two devices at the same time in my JAMES app and web portal?

Yes. If you purchase a second device in the JAMES webshop using the same email address, or take out the basic tariff for a second device via activation, your second device will also appear in the app and in the web portal after some time.

How can I replace the old device with a new one in the app so that it works instead of the old device?

To replace an old device with a new one in the app / web portal, please contact our Support.
