Do JAMES products have a fall sensor?

Yes, all JAMES B and R watch models are equipped with a fall sensor. The Samsung Galaxy models currently do not offer fall detection. However, it is important to know that, for technical reasons, fall detection on all emergency watches currently available on the market cannot guarantee 100% reliable detection of every type of fall. It is also important that the watches do not trigger a (false) alarm with every impact.

Examples of different types of falls:

• Dizziness: The watch wearer slowly slides to the ground, may still support themselves beforehand, e.g. on a chair, and only then falls over. Even though the impact is minor, injuries (e.g. to the back or hip) may still occur.
• Tripping: A person trips over the edge of a rug and falls hard to the ground. Such falls are generally detected reliably.
• Unintentional movements: Abrupt hand movements, e.g. hitting a tabletop, may be detected as a fall. If the watch continues to detect movement afterwards, no alarm is triggered.

Manual alarm triggering:
In most cases, wearers can manually trigger the alarm after a fall. Since most people are not unconscious after a fall, or only lose consciousness briefly, this is a reliable way to call for help.

Note: It is important that the watch is always worn! In most emergencies, whether a fall, fear or danger, help is then only one button press away!

How does the fall sensor work?

The JAMES Emergency Watches use built-in motion sensors and software algorithms to detect a possible fall automatically. Here’s the basic process:

1. The watch senses sudden movement
2. • It continuously monitors motion using accelerometers and tilt/orientation sensors.
   • A hard impact, sudden drop, or unusual body angle can look like a fall.
2. The software checks whether it was likely a real fall
3. • The watch tries to distinguish actual falls from normal movements like sitting down quickly or bumping a table.
   • Our system uses “algorithmic intelligence” to reduce false alarms.
3. A warning/countdown appears
4. • If the watch thinks a fall happened, it gives the wearer time to cancel the alert. A falling icon appears on the watch face and lasts for around 12 seconds, during this you can cancel any alert
   • If you don't cancel the alert while the icon is showing, the watch will then show and SOS icon and will trigger an alert - which is loud and audioable
4. Emergency contacts are alerted
5. • If the alert is not cancelled, the watch:
   • • Calls the call centre / emergency contacts
     • Sends GPS location information
     • Opens two-way voice communication through the watch itself

Some watch models allow the sensor sensitivity to be adjusted to three levels: very sensitive (the watch triggers even with lighter impacts), medium or low.

One important limitation: fall detection is helpful but not perfect. The softer or slower falls may not always be detected, while some sharp movements can occasionally trigger false alarms.
A lot of these systems work best when combined with:

• the manual SOS button - if you fall, but can still press the SOS button, always do this
• regular charging,
• and wearing the watch consistently

The fall sensor does not trigger after a fall. Why?

To avoid false alarms, the fall sensor does not trigger if the arm continues to move after a fall. If the watch wearer is still able to move after a fall, the alarm can be triggered manually by pressing the button.

Is an alarm possible in case of inactivity / no movement?

JAMES watches offer the option to automatically trigger an alarm if a certain number of steps is not reached.
Example: If the watch wearer has taken fewer than 200 steps by 08:00, the alarm is triggered. This setting can be defined in the JAMES app.
Note: Fast hand movements may also sometimes be counted as steps (activity).
