Who is the JAMES emergency watch suitable for?

In general, the JAMES emergency watch is suitable for anyone who is concerned that they may not be able to call for help in an emergency. It is especially aimed at seniors as well as people of all ages who live alone or require care. The focus of the watch is to inform relatives or emergency services quickly and easily. In addition, it can be individually adapted to the wearer’s needs, e.g. for wandering behaviour related to dementia or for use in a care home.

Does the emergency watch also work without a phone?

Yes, the JAMES emergency watch works independently of a mobile phone or smartphone.

How does the emergency call work?

An emergency call is triggered by pressing and holding the emergency button on your JAMES watch for at least three seconds.

The watch then emits an audible signal, giving you the option to cancel an unintentional alarm by pressing the button again. If the emergency call is not cancelled, the watch automatically starts calling your stored emergency contacts one after the other until a voice connection is established. At the same time, all emergency contacts are informed of the emergency by SMS and receive your current location.

What happens if no one can be reached during an emergency call?

To keep the likelihood of an emergency call going unanswered as low as possible, you can store up to 10 contacts in total. In the event of an emergency call, they are called three times in a row in the defined order until someone accepts the emergency call.

To have 100% reliable protection at all times, there is the add-on tariff “Emergency call centre”. This extends the alerting chain, consisting of the emergency contacts, with a 24/7 emergency call centre. It accepts the emergency call if the contacts cannot be reached.

How do I stop a false alarm?

A false alarm can be stopped by briefly pressing the control button or the SOS emergency button on the JAMES emergency watch within the first few seconds after the alarm is triggered. This cancels the alarm and the alerting chain is not triggered.

Can I test the emergency call regularly?

Yes, we recommend testing the emergency call function of the JAMES emergency watch once a month. This ensures that everything is working properly and that your safety remains guaranteed.

Important: Always test the emergency call in coordination with one of your “helpers”. If you use the “Emergency call centre” add-on tariff, ideally carry out the test on weekdays during daytime. Please avoid tests in the evening, at night, on public holidays or at weekends, as many real emergencies occur during these times.

Who can see my alarm information and how is it protected?

The system is technically secured. Only our support team has access to the data, and every access by emergency call centre staff is logged.

Can I make calls from the watch?

Calls from the watch to mobile phone numbers are only possible as part of an SOS emergency call. Outside of a triggered SOS alarm, no calls to mobile phone numbers can be made with the watch.

Which watches are currently available to buy?

Not all models for which manuals may be available in our knowledge base are still available for purchase. We continuously develop our products and regularly launch new models. As a result, older models may no longer be produced and may no longer be available once sold out. You can always find the models currently available in our webshop.

In which countries does the JAMES emergency watch work?

All JAMES emergency watches are supplied with a roaming SIM card with the prefix +41 (Switzerland - Swisscom) or +46 (Sweden - Tele2). These SIM cards are supported in most mobile networks in the following countries:

  • Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, United Kingdom, Ireland
  • Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland
  • Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Greece, Malta, Cyprus

No, the JAMES emergency watch can only be used by one person.

However, up to 10 helpers can be stored in the alerting chain.

How many emergency contacts can be stored?

Up to 10 relatives/emergency contacts can be stored in the alerting chain. They also have the option to use the JAMES app to request a location or view information.

Can I add a foreign number as a contact person?

Yes. Emergency contacts can be numbers from all EU countries, as well as the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Apart from the UK and Switzerland, no numbers outside the EU can be stored.

Can I add a landline number as an emergency contact?

Yes, you can store a landline number without any problems.

Emergency contacts that can be stored:

  • Landline numbers
  • Mobile phone numbers, with the option to receive an SMS in the event of an emergency call
  • Phone numbers from all EU countries, including the United Kingdom and Switzerland

Does the watch have a fall sensor / shock sensor?

Some models have a fall sensor. You can read which ones these are in the model comparison: Watch model comparison

Are JAMES emergency watches waterproof?

As the watches are designed for everyday use, all models are protected against splashes. With most JAMES watches, short-term immersion in clear water is also possible. Our premium models already have an IP68 certification and are therefore waterproof.

However, detergents, salt water or chlorine can damage the watch at any time—regardless of its water resistance. We therefore recommend removing the watch when showering and placing it within easy reach so you can access it quickly if needed.

Which vital data does the JAMES watch measure and how often is it measured?

Vital data is generally measured manually by the watch wearer. Optionally, measurements can also be automated. This must be set up by the helper.

Which vital data is measured?

The types of vital data that can be measured depend on the specific JAMES watch model:

  • All models: steps and pulse
  • B and R models: additionally blood pressure, oxygen saturation and temperature (note: these values are for information only and not for medical monitoring)

Thanks to flexible adjustment of measurement intervals, you can tailor vital data tracking optimally to your needs.

Does the watch always call emergency services / the ambulance in the event of an alarm?

If you only have the JAMES basic tariff, then only your stored emergency contacts are called one after the other.

If you have the Emergency call centre add-on tariff, then local emergency services are only contacted once your contacts have been called and could not be reached.

Can JAMES emergency watches be viewed at retailers?

JAMES emergency watches are available throughout Europe. However, there are only a few retailers where the watches can be viewed on site.

To still give you the opportunity to test the watch without obligation, we offer a free trial month. If you are not satisfied, you can return the watch free of charge after the trial period.

When receiving calls, only the phone number is shown on the watch — can a name/photo be stored?

On the R9 model, you can store a name or a photo. Unfortunately, this is not possible on all other models.

Can the strap be replaced?

Yes, on all JAMES emergency watches, the strap can be replaced with a different strap. Straps in different sizes and colours are available in our webshop here: https://james.care/zubehoer available.

To replace the strap, we recommend using a “spring bar tool” or visiting a watch shop/jeweller.

How do I switch the watch to daylight saving time/standard time?

The time is changed automatically by the watch. Due to the large number of watches, this can take a few days and also requires restarting the watch. Please switch the watch off once and then switch it back on. The time should then adjust automatically immediately or within the next few days.

Can JAMES watches be used despite having a pacemaker?

Yes, however, common studies recommend a minimum distance of 15 cm between emergency devices with a GSM module and a heart implant/pacemaker.

Can I switch the watch off completely?

Yes, the watch can be switched off. The procedure varies depending on the model. You can find the instructions in the respective manuals.

Is there a "Do Not Disturb" function?

JAMES emergency watches do not have a “Do Not Disturb” function. To ensure the emergency function works reliably, the watch always informs you about possible issues such as low battery via vibration and an audible signal.
